Another serious post.. what is with me? Too serious nowadays.. need to post some nonsense for the sake of it... just to stop the overwhelming gloom these days.
Just watched an anti-drug video.. and something just struck me. Hallelujah, I see the light! .......Yea right. People get addicted to many things, and they crave and crave for it excessively.. I'm talking about objects, like drugs, smoking, drinking, games... why exactly does it happen?
Popular opinion states the most obvious - cos they take too much of it, and it becomes part of their habit, and it becomes them. They are hooked onto the pleasure-inducing portion of it all, into the sense of satisfaction it gives them.. but why, in the first place, do they start?
Social pressure? Yes, one of the reasons is social pressure. Friends all smoke, I smoke. Friends take drugs, so it's cool to do it. Everyone is DoTAing, why not me? The need to fit into the crowd can be so great, it can be a pretty simple task to pressure an innocent child into murder. Sounds exaggerated, but it's much easier than it seems.
But I think the much bigger reason.. is escapism. We try to use these things as an avenue to escape from life, from our past, from bad memories or good ones that have left.. from ourselves. We use it to pretend the world is all about the smoke in the brain, all about the lovely colours you get when you take drugs, all about the next creep to kill, the next hero to gang. It may seem like a good refresh from the pressures of life, from the pain of loss and heartbreak, but in the end, it becomes a part of you, it consumes you more than the thing you try to escape.
That is addiction.. what I think of it. Not merely a small matter of taking too much of something.. it's even more complicated when you try to break it.. because to have the will to break it, the problem lies within the addict.. within what they are trying to escape from. If it is not resolved.. it may never go away.
Just a thought.
