Farewell To A German Dream

This post, simply put, is dedicated to a team that is now to fight for 3rd place. A team that has fought well and hard for a dream.. a dream that has vanished like smoke.

Of course this is the World Cup.. many teams will return shattered, with their heads below their shins (wow, if that's possible) , tired and facing the disappointment of their country. But Germany, in particular, has been my favourite team this World Cup. And so, since this is my blog, I'll write about them.

Since the start of the watchable matches ( meaning the final 64) they have performed with great gusto. While like any other European team, they boast a robust defence and midfield, now they also have a devastating attack force. They have always been a highly tactical team, and I believe that they can work with even mediocre players ( not that they have any..) . Not like England... put in some of the world's best players and churn out a game that sends everyone to sleep. Honestly, this year the English were pathetic. But the Germans were on a frenzy, going offensive and making every one of their games watchable. And of course, they went on unbeaten, slaughtering every team they met, until they met Italy.
Of course, you could say that's because they were on their home ground, so they will do better. Definitely, they will do better on home ground. In fact, Klinsmann already admitted that the audience is a great booster for the German team. And hence the legend that the Germans will never be beaten on their own soil.
But the last match proved fatal. Why? The answer is simple. Now you have 2 legends fighting each other - one, that the Germans are invincible on home ground, and two, that the Italians have never lost to Germany. It seems that the latter one proved true. The Germans seemed to falter at the thought, and in the first half, their performance was slightly off. But they came back in the second half, only to lose 5 minutes before the game ended.

Now, however, I still admire them. Even in the last match, I feel they were a better team than the Italians. Why? In terms of fair play. The Italians have always been known for playing dirty. And that match was no exception. Players kicked the Germans, dived like pro swimmers, and Totti was a total idiot in one part. He practically flew into a German player with his knees, then fell- and asked for a penalty. What the fuck???? The ref decided to give a penalty against him , but that unsporting act deserved a yellow card, if not a red. Lucky for him, the player didn't get injured enough to be carried out, otherwise yellow would be unavoidable.
The Germans, however, were quite sporting in this game, I feel. They barely asked for penalties, especially when it was obvious they fell on their own. Not with the Italians.. that is why I will never respect them. They lost fair and square, and did not complain. They cried on the pitch, but hell, if you lost in the final 5 minutes wouldn't you? Especially when it is the fight for the World Cup finals. They fought well and hard, and bowed out of the finals with grace.

They lost the match, they lost the Cup, but they won my respect. Germany is proud of them, and I am too. Well done , Germany.. GLORY TO THE DEUTSCHLAND!!!
